Villajoyosa

Villajoyosa, a typical maritime town on the Costa Blanca with about 30,000 inhabitants, is situated only a half hour from Alicante Airport by car, ten minutes from Benidorm and around four and half hours from Madrid.

Villajoyosa holds many attractions, such as the fish auctions in its harbour, the old town's fortifications and the intense coloured facades of its houses close to the harbour, which originated so that fishermen could view their houses from the sea.

The village is also famous for its chocolate industry. The fame came to this village when it started to import from Ecuador and Venezuela this plant in the 18th century. Nowadays, you can taste all kinds of delicious varieties in the shops called Valor, which produce and commercialize chocolate all over Spain. The Valor brand is very well known all over Europe. If you visit these Valor chocolate houses, which are located at many cities around the Costa Blanca, make sure you get the local specialty: Chocolate with Churros! This sweet bakery is the ideal companion for a cup of hot chocolate.

There are numerous restaurants along the sea front of the village, which serve every kind of cuisine (Spanish, Italian, English, German or French) and numerous bars and ice cream parlours.

Villajoyosa offers good beaches with crystal and quiet waters, like "Playa del Centro" (sand), "Paraiso" (pebbles and sand and well known for windsurfing), "Bon Nou" (pebbles and sand), "La Caleta" (pebbles and sand), "Esparrello" (pebbles and sand), "Los Estudiantes" (pebbles and sand), Varadero (pebbles and sand) and "Tío Roig" (pebbles and sand).

In the harbour and the nautical club you will be able to practice various water sports, such as sailing, water skiing, diving and windsur.
